My friend, her two babies, and I headed down to Artist Point in Washington for a quick overnight adventure. The plan was simple: catch the sunset, spend the night, wake up for sunrise, and make the most of our little getaway. Literally not even a full days trip.
And of course, having two babies along made things a little chaotic. But honestly, I love having those kids along for our adventures. I love them like my own, and even when things are a little wild, I wouldn’t trade it.
We originally planned to camp, but naturally, we managed to forget a few important things. I forgot the inflatable mats we were supposed to sleep on, and my friend forgot her air pump for the air mattress. Yay!
So our camping setup quickly turned into, “You know what? It’s probably safer to just sleep in the car anyway.”
And since we had nothing soft to lay on, we figured we might as well make the car work.
It was pretty squishy.
But it was so worth it.
Especially with two babies, it’s definitely something my friend and I will look back on and never forget. It wasn’t exactly the most luxurious overnight stay, but it made the whole thing that much more memorable and it makes me happy to share that experience with her and her little ones.
Now, lets talk about one of the reasons we came: sunset.
It was absolutely stunning. In one shot I captured, it genuinely looks like the entire world was on fire, lol. It was one of those moments where you literally just stop and take it all in because there really isn’t much else to do.
But as beautiful as sunset was, sunrise was actually the biggest reason I knew I wanted to car camp for this quick trip.
I wanted to be there for that early morning light, and it did not disappoint. I got some of my favourite scenic shots during sunrise, and I honestly can’t stop looking at them.
Seeing the scenery in person was stunning, but to be completely honest, looking back at my images and seeing the way I was able to edit them somehow makes me feel the scene even more.
I don’t know how that makes sense, but in my brain it does.
I love that I can create images that truly make me feel something and not just see something.
When I was little, I was always so drawn to cityscapes and landscapes and the way photographs of them made me feel. I never really knew why or realized that I was admiring photography itself.
It honestly surprises me that I didn’t get into photography much sooner in life. Looking back, I was probably always a little obsessed with it without even knowing. LOL.
And now I get to create those same feelings in my own images, which is pretty darn cool, and makes me feel so proud that I can do that.
So this little overnight trip gave us a lot: a chaotic camping plan, two babies, a very squishy SUV, a sunset that looked like the world was on fire, a sunrise that made waking up completely worth it, and some of my favourite scenic images I’ve taken yet...
Honestly, I’d do it all over again. Just let me know when and I'll bring my camera along. <3
