I’ve always believed photography can be about more than just beautiful images. Sometimes it can simply be about showing up for people who need kindness, care, and a moment to feel seen.
Recently, I had the opportunity to host a mommy and me photo session with a few different mothers and their little ones, and it ended up touching my heart far more deeply than I expected.
Many of the women who came were single mothers. Throughout the day, I got to hear little pieces of their stories, watch the way they loved their children, and witness the quiet strength they carry every single day. There was so much tenderness in the small moments. Tiny hands wrapped around their moms, shy smiles turning into laughter, little cuddles between photos, and the kind of love that does not need to be posed to be beautiful.
One moment especially stayed with me. One mother shared that she almost could not make it because she could not afford gas to get there. Hearing that truly put things into perspective for me. Something that may seem small to one person can be a real obstacle for someone else. Yet despite that, she still showed up excited to create memories with her child.
That moment reminded me why this work means so much to me.
These sessions are never just about taking photos. They are about preserving memories, creating space for connection, and reminding people that they are worthy of being celebrated exactly where they are in life. Sometimes all someone needs is to feel seen, cared for, and valued.
Watching these mothers light up while holding their children close was something I will never forget. Seeing their excitement and hearing their stories made me feel incredibly grateful to do what I do.
The older I get, the more I realize how important it is to use what we have, whether that is time, creativity, or resources, to love people well, especially those carrying burdens quietly.
